TBC Fight Night 01

The TBC (Thailand Boxing Championship), the new promotion created by Paul Windsor from The Box Thailand Gym, took their activities to the next level by adding a proper production team to their first official event titled: TBC Fight Night 01.

Martial Arts Thailand have been collaborating closely with the TBC team to organize a proper show for “TBC Fight Night 01” surprise streaming LIVE on the TBC facebook page.

One of the biggest challenges was the request to use copyrighted music for the fighters walkouts. We managed the situation perfectly by coordinating cues with the DJ and turning our sound inputs on and off during the event.

A lot of effort was applied on the spot, managing the microphones and background music, during the interviews to elite guests such as Nick Chapman (BKFC), Jeff Fennech and Brock Jarvis on the ring with Ali McOnie and Jimmy Bowe, the impeccable commentators for the night.

Presenting the show to the live audience and to our cameras was our friend Luke Rockwell, who did a beautiful job on the ring keeping an uplifting and professional tone on the mike.

Choosing the Platform

As TBC was a new entity at the time of the event, we were asked for a possibility to stream on their Instagram page considering that was their most popular platform. Technically it’s not impossible to do, but there are heavy drawbacks to Live Stream on Instagram.

First of all, the Instagram screen format is vertical and it doesn’t work well with a combat sport event. Then we had to use a third party website to be able to connect our streaming software to Instagram (security and quality leaks right there). Other issues might arise as well, like the little control over the post after the show is over and so on.

Considering that TBC didn’t have a YouTube channel and we didn’t have time to create one and make it eligible for the live streaming, we all agreed to use the TBC Facebook page and make a surprise free view streaming post.

Streaming Issues

Knowing that Facebook is very strict on its policies we were very careful with the copyrighted material music and cues with the DJ.

However, in the middle of our show, Facebook blocked our streaming and restricted our personal account for 24 hours.

Mind that Facebook doesn’t waste time to explain why they cut off the streaming, they just give you a minimal notification that “You have violated the Community Standards”.

This was a very stressful situation, having the show in motion and at the peak of its momentum with a striking 24 hours restriction blocking the live streaming.

Having no more connection to the live feed we continued our work and keep on recording the feed in our computer and with the 2 cameras.

After the show, with a careful research, we found that our block was not due technical or copyright reasons, but it was because one of the sponsors was a Marijuana Shop and it was mentioned a few times by the MC among with other sponsors during the night.

This situation raised the flag on Facebook, which don’t allows:

Content that attempts to buy, sell, trade, donate or gift, or asks for, marijuana.

as explained in their Community Standards (https://transparency.fb.com/en-gb/policies/community-standards/regulated-goods/).

After the Live Streaming issue, during the 6th bout, the venue experienced a total blackout for a minute leaving the fighters and audience in the dark and wondering.

Thanks to our UPS system and continuous recording on the single cameras we were able to recover the whole experience without any cut, rebuilding the corrupted parts during the post production phase.

The YouTube Premiere

The day after the full show was recovered, edited and corrected (added missing parts, replaced bad angles, minor copyright music popups, volume adjustments, advertising videos, graphics, timer, intro, outro, titles and logos).

In the following week we also helped TBC organizers to create their own YouTube Channel and make it eligible for Premiere video, and within a week the “TBC Fight Night 01” was up LIVE in their page.

Live Streaming and Premiere

The Show was premiered one week later gaining over 1,000 views within a few days.

You can watch the Martial Arts Thailand edited version in the video archive here below.

Besides the Facebook restrictions episode we are happy and proud of our work.

We’ve faced a Social Media block, a blackout, microphone and audio issues with copyrighted music and timed cues. The final result, as you can see here above, is a well rounded full boxing show production that is way better than some professional TV channels đŸ˜‰
